She always love to go to church, even after she became too deaf to hear. Liberty Hill Methodist Protestant Church was founded in 1849 by dissidents from the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, who were vehemently opposed to slavery. During the tumultuous days of the Civil War, the "Seceder Church," which was looked upon with much suspicion by those loyal to the Confederate cause, ceased to exist. According to the 1937 W.P.A. Church Records Survey, this church was reorganized in the late 1880s and again occupied its original building, as it continues to do.
